"...My grandfather got me her when I turned twenty. She's a genetically-enhanced and bred cat... She's... um... very expensive. Superior to the average cat." Nods his head. "Mink's very unique." She cost a small fortune, just so you know.
Lynx still didn't know how much that cute little kitty cost!

xander’s mouth fell open in disbelief. he felt really sorry for anyone who believed any of katze’s bullshit. seriously, a genetically enhanced housecat? what did he take xander for, a gullible retard?
right. and i’m the fucking easter bunny.
he faked a moment of considering his next question when he already knew what he was going to ask. he didn’t want to be genuine for katze. he was smart enough to figure out that this was just another thing that the therapist was observing.
why are you psychiatrists always so intent on lying about everything?

"...Then you must be." Takes out an old piece of paper and tosses it at Xander. "If you didn't no, I'm rich out the wazoo, so to speak. I'm the only relative ALIVE from my family." He shifted again. "My grandfather had a weird knack for genetics as a hobby and decided to get me a weird kitten. He thought since I wasn't very strong, I'd need a strong house-cat. Her line is there. Plus some of the enhancements."

the brunet took one look at the paper and immediately tossed it back at katze. i don’t want your bullshit.
he began to question why he was playing along in the first place when the therapist’s earlier words repeated themselves in his mind. a look of genuine incredulity came over his face.
if you’re so rich, what are you doing in this hellhole? xander wasn’t sure he’d walk right into hell just to torture people if he was “rich out the wazoo.” he’d pay someone else to do it for him, or better yet, not do it at all.

Laughs. "I was raised in an orphanage, sent off to boarding school, and discovered I had a talent with this line of work. I work because... I enjoy it."
Shifts. "I like helping people, and the best thing about my job is one day the pacients smile... It makes everything worth it."

one story that was…almost believable. so, katze had been an orphan? that still didn’t explain why he always seemed truly happy. something like that tended to make people unhappy. maybe the guy was just backwards.
xander had had a family. kind of. for a while, he’d had a family. for sixteen years, he’d had a mother. but he wasn’t happy. maybe he was backwards, too. while on the topic of unhappiness, the young man’s thoughts drifted to the bittersweet nightmare.
his hand trembled once as he touched it to the board. what if one didn’t?

His expression faltered a little. He saw the trembling hand and frowned a bit. Sighs softly, before he smiled, so kindly at his patient.
"Eventually, it may take months or even years... They all smile. I guarentee it, Xander. I've never been wrong before, and I won't be wrong."

as great as that sounded, xander found it rather hard to believe. he wasn’t sure he would ever be happy again; not with a vicious monster inside of him and rejective people around him. even if katze was as good as he said he was, xander found happiness to be out of his reach.
his eyes avoided katze’s as he wrote, there’s a first time for everything.

"Not with this, Xander!" He spoke in a very sing-songing voice. Obviously overly happy at everything. He stretched his back out and grinned a little bit before yawning. "Mmm, yes, I do believe you're going to smile one day! I'm just not sure WHAT day...."
Nod. Nod.

for once, the excessive optimism was kind of relieving instead of just really annoying. did the guy really believe happiness was something achievable to anyone? even xander would admit that that was something to look forward to. but, still… he had his doubts.
how can you be so sure? he asked almost earnestly. you don’t even know who i am.
