•• Carnival is a rather thin, breakable looking girl. She’s fair-skinned with light blonde hair that’s cut short, and often has a far out expression on her face, as if she isn’t all there. When she isn’t wearing the simple white patient outfit, her clothing generally consists of a white t-shirt and jeans, as she likes simplicity in her clothes.
•Personality•
•• Autistic people are generally hard to communicate with, and Carnival is no exception. However, autistic people with multiple personalities are even more difficult to communicate with. She is also one of those people. She has herself, Carnival, an autistic, and her alter ego, Alter, who isn’t autistic, but who is extremely violent in nature. Both of them are difficult to communicate with. One will simply ignore you. The other might attempt to hurt you. If you want to get through to either of these personas, you need to have a lot of patience. Otherwise, you will most likely end up nowhere, or even worse off than you started. When she’s Carnival, she tends to be withdrawn, like most autistics, and it takes a lot to get through to her. Contrary to what her antisocial nature suggests, she actually likes company and can become lonely very easily. She rarely ever speaks, and this hesitation is generally taken as shyness. When she does speak, it’s usually to the point. It takes a lot to get her to open up. On the other hand, Alter is an angry person, and the main reason it is hard to communicate with her is the fact that she is extremely narrow-minded, and almost has an animalistic nature for violence of any kind. Alter seems to have an undefined hate of the world and humanity in general, and believes that everyone is as hateful as the man who called himself her father. She’s rarely ever optimistic, and tends to make a lot of sarcastic remarks.

• History: On a sunny day at a carnival, a woman went into labor. She named her newborn Carnival, because that was where she was born. At this point one might start to question the sanity of the mother for choosing such a name, but that could be explained by the fact that the mom was a druggie. She took speed, coke, all the stuff you shouldn’t get into, and what was more, she had done it all through the pregnancy. The child she birthed was autistic, which was really no surprise, but as it turned out she also became affected by multiple personality disorder (MPD). The symptoms started in her early childhood, due to traumatic events in her life.
Her family consisted of her mom and her, just the two of them, and they lived in a van. They basically went wherever the road took them, her mom often stopping for more drugs, or to go to late night parties. Carnival stayed inside the van most of the time, considering it her sanctuary, afraid to go outside. She spent most of her life doing crossword puzzles, word searches, jigsaw puzzles, and Sudoku. Her autism prevented her from being very social and all, and after a while her mother seemed to completely ignore her existence, except for giving her food. However, that was certainly not the right thing for anyone to do to an autistic child, or any child for that matter.
Their life was pretty much the same, always driving, always seeming to be running from something, until a dark night, when Carnival had been left alone in the van. Her mother was out at a late night party, most likely at a bar, when up front one of the windows was smashed open, and a hand reached in to unlock the door. A man let himself into the car, and it wasn’t until a few moments had passed until he noticed Carnival. This was due to the fact that the girl had hardly lifted her head or said a word to acknowledge the man’s existence. When he saw her, however, his face took on a furious expression.
“Where is your mother?!” he demanded of the girl. Carnival didn’t move at all to indicate she had even heard him, let alone answered. This infuriated the man, who took this as a sign of defiance rather than the fact that it was due to autism. He proceeded to springing into the back of the van, where the seats had been taken out to provide room for sleeping. This was also where the girl was currently seated, putting together a jigsaw puzzle. The angry man stooped over in front of her, scattering the pieces, and grabbed her by her chin to force her to look at him. She wouldn’t keep his gaze, however, and slapped her face in attempts to get her to look into his eyes. Spit from his angry shouts splattered all over her, and his agonizingly loud voice caused a painful ringing in her ears.
When she still refused to answer, the man started hurting her physically, starting with slapping, then moving on to the twisting of her arms, pulling of her hair, and even took off his belt and started whipping her across her back. The only thing that came out of the girl’s mouth were cries of pain, but she was unable to escape from his grasp, both because of her mental and physical limitations.
This went on for about half an hour, during which an extreme change occurred in the girl that would forever change her life. It seemed as if the autistic child had been wiped away completely, as suddenly, after receiving another blow from the belt, the girl released a violent screech and rounded on her attacker. Overtaken by a sudden fierce madness, she used one of her pencils to repeatedly stab the man, in the eyes, on his arms, and everywhere else, eventually killing him. This new Carnival showed no signs of autism, and it was birthed from the pent up anger, pain, and stress of going through such brutal torture.
Later, the original Carnival ‘regained consciousness’, only to find the dead body of the man who had assaulted her on the floor. She ‘awoke’ to find herself in a standing position, holding a bloody pencil. Blood soaked through her clothes, most of it hers. The girl had fallen to her knees, overwhelmed by a burning pain in her back, but at the same time feeling detached, as if she was watching a movie and she was on the screen. This time, she actually lost consciousness.
That time when she woke, she found herself in a strange room, surrounded by people, most in black uniforms. They tried talking to her, but she seemed unresponsive, as if she wasn’t paying attention. This was natural, as she was autistic. She was paying attention though, and found out that the man she had killed was her father. Still, she did not respond. However, when they mentioned that her mother had been arrested and thrown in jail, the girl seemed to switch personalities, and was instantly thrown into a violent rage, assaulting one of the police like a crazed animal. She managed to bite a chunk out of his arm, but the police soon gained control over the girl. An hour later, they tested her to find out what was wrong, both by doing physical and mental exams. They found out two things: that she was autistic, and that she had multiple personality disorder. Throughout these tests, she would alternate personalities, one of them autistic, and one of them a crazed animal, which further proved their conclusions. A psychiatrist was called in to figure out what was wrong with her violent alter ego, and after hours of hardly any success, they determined that the other personality was mentally unstable. Carnival was sent to the Quack Shack, where she was labeled a high risk patient, and kept under lock and key when she was possessed by her alter ego. The staff had two names for the girl, Carnival when she was ‘normal’, and simply ‘Alter’ when she became violent. When she was Carnival, she was allowed outside of her cell, though she was always accompanied by two guards, who made sure no one upset her enough for her other self to break out.
